“The Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals affirmed this week that prayers [offered ‘in Jesus’ name’] given before legislative bodies are constitutional, despite atheist assertions that such practices cannot withstand legal scrutiny,” reports ChristianNews.net.
“Last summer, the Freedom from Religion Foundation (FFRF) mailed a letter to officials in Hamilton County, Tennessee to complain about citizen-led prayers that are regularly given before county commission meetings. Although county commissioners invite individuals from all different faiths to lead the prayers, FFRF argued that the practice was unconstitutional, since a majority of the invocations are given ‘in Jesus’ name.’…”
“However, the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals published an opinion on Friday, likewise refusing to grant an injunction. In the 21-page opinion, Judge Avern Cohn wrote that – unless new evidence shows otherwise – the commission’s prayer policy is ‘constitutional on its face.’

“Additionally, by citing case law from the Supreme Court, the court reaffirmed the importance that legislative prayer has held throughout U.S. history.
“The Senate and House elected their first chaplains in 1789,” the court wrote. “As the Supreme Court explained, ‘it can hardly be thought that in the same week Members of the First Congress voted to appoint and to pay a Chaplain for each House and also voted to approve the draft of the First Amendment that they intended the Establishment Clause of the Amendment to forbid what they had just declared acceptable.'”
[Dr. Chaps’ comment: Now four circuit courts allow Jesus prayers (6th, 9th, 7th, 11th), and two circuit courts ban Jesus prayers (2nd and 4th). Thank God the Supreme Court will hear Greece vs. Galloway this October, and forever settle the matter. “Jesus” is not an illegal word, and He’s not banned by the Constitution during public prayer.]

Judge bans “Jesus prayers” in this Southern State…
A federal judge ordered commissioners in Rowan County, North Carolina to stop pastors or citizens from speaking the banned word “Jesus” during public prayers before county meetings, reports Christian Post.
“Judge James A. Beaty Jr. allowed a preliminary injunction against the prayers in the case Lund, et al. v. Rowan County, which was filed by the American Civil Liberties Union and the ACLU of North Carolina Legal Foundation in March on behalf of three Rowan County residents, who argued the [atheists] constitutional rights were being violated because the majority of the county commission’s prayers were Christian in scope.
“Defendant Rowan County, North Carolina is hereby enjoined from knowingly and/or intentionally delivering or allowing to be delivered sectarian prayers at meetings of the Rowan County Board of Commissioners during the pendency of this suit,” read the docket entry in the U.S. Middle District Court case.

“Judge Beaty Jr. also denied on Tuesday the county’s request to drop the case, saying that similar cases are currently being debated in higher courts.
“Rowan County Commissioner Craig Pierce said in an email response to WBTV that although the commission would not disobey the judge’s ruling, he believes that the real issue has to do with First Amendment rights rather than the commision of prayer.
“Naturally we anticipated the injunction,” Pierce told WBTV. “We were told by our attorneys that it would come. This is just another example of the ACLU trying to take away the rights of the American citizen.”
[Dr. Chaps’ comment: “Jesus” is not an illegal word, and it’s not banned by the First Amendment, which protects anybody’s right to say Jesus. Anybody can pray in Jesus’ name, anywhere, anytime. That”s called freedom of religion (not freedom from religion). Government officials can pray too, since the Constitution forbids any religious litmus test for office. Atheists hate our religious freedom, nearly as much as they hate Jesus Christ. Let’s petition Congress to let military chaplains pray “in Jesus’ name”…]

Atheist Chaplains? Democrats undermine Christian chaplains
150 Democrat Congressmen voted for a bill to empower “Atheist Chaplains” to replace Christian Chaplains in the military. No kidding. 230 Republicans and 44 Dems opposed.
“The House on Friday rejected a Democratic proposal to allow nonreligious chaplains to serve nonreligious service members in the military,” reports The Hill.
“Rep. Jared Polis [the openly homosexual Democrat from Colorado] said nearly a quarter of people serving in the military are nonreligious, but under current law, spiritual advisers must be appointed by religious organizations, like the Catholic Church. His amendment to the National Defense Authorization Act would have changed that to allow “nontheistic” organizations to appoint people to the military’s chaplain corps.
“What my amendment would simply do is allow chaplains who are certified or ordained, secular humanists and ethical culturalists or atheists, to also be able to support the brave men and women who serve in our military,” Polis said.

“Polis said his [Atheist Chaplain] amendment is needed because the only other counseling option available to nonreligious service members is to see a mental health expert.
“Let’s examine what a chaplain really is,” said Rep. John Fleming (R-La.). “A chaplain is a person who is a minister of the faith, someone who ministers on the basis of a belief in a deity, a higher power.”
“Fleming added that there is no reason an atheist would seek out a chaplain for consultation. ‘By definition, as an atheist, he doesn’t or she doesn’t believe in the spiritual world. Makes no sense whatsoever,’ he said…
“The GOP-led House was able to defeat the amendment in a 150-274 vote. Every Republican voted against it, and they were joined by 44 Democrats.”
[Dr. Chaps’ comment: It requires 3 years of seminary and a fully accredited Master of Divinity degree to qualify for chaplaincy. What would they teach for 3 years at an Atheist Seminary? Their entire faith could be summarized on the first day: “We believe nothing.” What would they teach? Nothing. Counsel? Nothing. THEY’RE NOT QUALIFIED. To make Atheists eligible for chaplaincy without any education punishes Christians.]
Let’s defend Christian Chaplains, who are targeted and undermined by such Democrats. Please sign our petition to Congress:
